Seven Mile Beach is about 6.3 miles long
Two measurements, one source, and I am printing both
The article that gives the 6.3-mile figure gives a second number in the same breath: about six miles for the uninterrupted sandy beach. Those are not in conflict so much as measuring two different things — the outer bound of what you could call the beach, and the part of it that is continuous sand. Neither of them is seven. Whichever you use, the name overstates the beach by something between two-thirds of a mile and a full mile.
It is a small thing to be wrong about and it is the first thing anyone asks, which is exactly why every page repeats the seven.
It is public, all of it
The beach is public property. You can walk its full length regardless of which hotel, condo or nothing at all you are staying in. That is worth knowing before somebody sells you access to a stretch of sand: there is no gate on this beach and no ticket for it.
Snorkelling is noted near the Marriott, near Government House, and north of the Seven Mile Public Beach area. From the cruise terminals the beach is about ten minutes by vehicle, which is on the tender port page. On the bus it is CI$2, which is US$2.40, and there is no bus on a Sunday or a public holiday — getting around has the hours.
What happened to the sand
Annual erosion has already reduced the beach in places. Then Hurricane Helene, in 2024, left “hardly any sand left in some places”. In August 2025 the Grand Cayman Marriott announced a plan to place 8,000 cubic yards of sand to restore its shoreline.
Announced is the word the source supports, and it is the word I am using. Whether that sand is in place now, how far along the beach it went and what it looks like on the day you arrive are not things the source tells me, so they are not things this page tells you. What you can take from it is that the width of the beach in front of any given property is not a fixed quantity, and a photograph taken before 2024 is not evidence about this year.
If the width of the sand in front of your hotel matters to you, ask the hotel directly and ask when the photograph on their site was taken. A storm in 2024 and a renourishment plan announced in 2025 are both inside the life of most published images of this beach.
The beach against the boat
Worth being straight about this, since the site earns its money on the boats. Seven Mile Beach costs nothing, it is ten minutes from the terminals, and for a lot of visitors with four hours ashore it is the correct answer. Nothing on the water improves on a free beach if what you wanted was a beach.
The boats go somewhere else. Not one of the seven listings on this site is sold as a Seven Mile Beach trip — they are Stingray City, reef and Starfish Point trips, working the North Sound on the other side of the island. That is a different day out, not a better version of this one. The case for paying for it at all is on is it worth it, and what a day with no operator in it looks like is on without an excursion.
